BURGLARY METHODS AND HOW-TO SECURE YOUR WINDOWS

Make sure your windows are secure

Protect your windows with good window security from AXA. Burglars are getting smarter and need only 30 seconds to enter your home. Don’t be fooled by false security and choose the right products with the SKG seal of approval. This will reduce the chance of a burglary by as much as 90%!

Using a detailed window drawing, we show you which parts of the window need extra security. We also explain the different burglary methods and show you how easy it is for a burglar to gain access to an insufficiently secured house. Of course, we also show an appropriate solution for each burglary method, which is very helpful to secure all of your windows!

Sneaking-in

Everyone leaves a window open from time to time. This is the perfect opportunity for a burglar to sneak into your home. Our advice is to always close and lock windows, even if you are out for a short period of time. An open window may seem harmless, but it can provide the perfect opportunity for burglars to enter your home undetected.

SNEAKING-IN

1. AXA Barrièr bar

By installing a barrier bar (SKG-2 stars) from AXA, you choose visible protection in your home against this type of burglary. In addition, you limit the crawl space to a maximum of 15 cm!

2. AXA Oyster

The AXA Oyster® (SKG-2 stars and with checkmark) is not only a window lock, but thanks to the built-in, comfortable gap function, you can safely ventilate in 2 positions. The Oyster cannot be manipulated from the outside, making it impossible for someone to sneak in.

Many people sleep with the window open. If the window is above an extension, there is a chance of sneaking in. With the Oyster, you no longer have this worry. Safe ventilation is how you do it!

Prying-open locks

Burglars are often skilled at prying open unapproved locks. Prying open locks is a quick and effective burglary method that burglars use with a screwdriver or crowbar to gain access to your home.

3. AXAflex Security

With AXAflex Security (SKG-2 stars) you can make any casement or opening window in your home extra burglar-resistant. Of course it is also important to use the product in the right way: close the window and lock it when nobody is at home!

Hinge pin tapping

For outward opening windows and doors fitted with non SKG-approved hinges, burglars can easily tap out the hinge pins to open the window or door.

4. Safety hinges

Security hinges (SKG-2 or 3 stars) from AXA have a built-in thief’s claw that, even after removing the hinge pins, makes it impossible to open the window from that side.

Drilling holes

Another break-in method used by burglars to bypass your window latch: they drill a hole under the latch and then try to use an iron wire to open the latch.

5. Security window fastener

Always choose lockable, SKG-approved window locks to make it as difficult as possible for burglars. Consider the security window lock 3329 (modern, straight handle) or security window lock 3319 (classic, angled handle).

These security window locks (SKG-1 star) for outward-swinging pivot windows can be locked with a key, making it impossible for the burglar to push the handle up.
