Going on holiday? Make sure your home is secured with AXA

With AXA you choose for visible door security and approved locks which are not only extra burglar-resistant (protects against cylinder withdrawal), but also quickly recognized by burglars. This means the burglars will think twice before breaking in.

Packed and locked? Check!

Make sure you leave your home safe and secured while going on summer holiday. Whether you are traveling abroad or staying closer to home, a safe and secured home gives you more peace of mind.

Get security fittings on your exterior doors!

With this you choose for visible door security and approved locks that are not only extra burglar-resistant (protects against cylinder withdrawal). Burglars also recognize these locks from a distance, so they will think twice before striking you!

TIP: for maximum burglary protection of your door, we recommend installing an SKG-approved security fitting and cylinder in addition to security fittings.

Please note: the PC sizes for the security fitting and door lock should always be the same. Example: if you have a security fitting PC 72, you also need a security door lock in the same size!

Also check immediately that the shield length and width, but also that the opening pattern (see dimension drawing) of the new security fitting matches what you have now. This way you can be sure of a well-fitting product!

Our recommendations for doors

Here you see a selection of security fittings in the size PC72 (most common).

How-to measure and replace your fittings?

1. What PC size (or center to center) do I need for the security fitting?

To replace your current door hardware, you must first know its PC size. In addition, the PC size for door fittings and matching door lock should always be the same.

PC size:
Distance from the center of the door handle opening to the center of the cylinder opening. The most common sizes are 55 and 72 mm.

2. Replace your old fittings

As you know the PC size of the hardware, we recommend replacing your old door fittings with security fittings with core pull protection.

TIP: check that the shield length and width, as well as the opening pattern ( always check the dimension drawing) of the new security fitting matches what you have now. This way you can be sure of a well-fitting product!

This type of hardware is visible to burglars from a distance, making them think twice before breaking into your home. In addition, the burglar can no longer reach your cylinder thanks to the cylinder pull guard.

Don't forget your windows!

That most burglars enter through the back or front door is a given, but certainly don’t forget your (externally accessible) windows. Therefore, choose lockable window hardware so that when closed, your windows are also burglar-proof!

Our recommendations for windows

You can see a selection of popular security window fasteners that contribute to extra burglar resistance below.

Prevent climbing opportunities and secure valuables!

Remove your ladder, dumpster, e-bike, etc. from around your house as much as possible or secure them with a good chain lock!

1. Always lock windows and doors securely

This may sound obvious, but always lock windows and doors securely. Just shutting the door or window is insufficient, lock them too!

15% of burglaries happen by burglars sneaking in through an open window or door.

2. Hide your keys

In your absence, be sure to hide any extra keys in your home and don’t keep them in visible places (visible from the outside).

3. Make sure there is lighting in- and the house

In your absence, arrange lighting in and around your house. Think of lighting at your front- and backdoor, but also indoors.

Using a time switch, to leave lights on in several places in- and around the house, makes sure it looks like someone is home.
TIP: also vary the times so that not all the lights are on at the same time.

4. Create a lived-in impression

Inform your neighbors, friends or family when you go on vacation or away for a few days and possibly make arrangements to empty the mailbox regularly. They can also keep an eye out!

5. Prevent climbing opportunities

Make sure there are no climbing opportunities around your house. Get wheel bins and any ladders out of sight or secure them with a chain lock!

6. Lock the shed

Also, always secure (and lock) the shed properly to keep any tools out of reach for burglars, but also to secure your valuables, such as a scooter or an e-bike.

In addition, get security fittings with grommet protection to prevent a possible break-in in your shed or storage room. Burglars are increasingly targeting sheds, according to the AD.

7. Leave a clean home

Also perhaps obvious: just throw out the trash before you actually go on holiday

This will prevent you from finding nasty smells in your home when you return. Believe us: that’s a little nicer coming home! 😉
